Once Upon a Quinceañera (Post one)

Once Upon a Quinceañera (Post one)

By: Julia Alvarez

Quote One: “I don’t know if your sister told you? I’m working on a book about quinceañeras.” –Silvia

Page: 33

Significance: It's telling you that the author wants to tell the readers someone is writing about the same thing. I think that it's important to share that in the book so that people know that someone is writing a book that's like the book your reading. I think they put that because it also shows that it's a book talking about a different culture. It shows us what other cultures are like.

I think this quote relates to me in a few ways. First, the person who said it has my name. Second, it sounds like something I would say. I really enjoy writing pieces and I’d want to write something like this someday.

Question: Do you think Silvia will finish the book?

Quote Two: “When I turned fifteen, everybody started having quinceañeras.” –Isabella

Page: 31

Significance: It shows that having a quinceañera is very popular. This quote also ties in with the culture thing. It's a custom to have a quinceañera at fifteen if you are a Hispanic girl. Or even if you want to have one, you can. It's basically a party for girls to celebrate women-hood. They can now do anything they want. In America, we have sweet sixteens. A quinceañera has a whole ceremony. A sweet sixteen doesn't.

This quote this true to me. When you are fifteen, you do have a quinceañera. So, I guess when Isabella turned fifteen, she and many other girls had one.

Question: Do you think all Hispanic girls have quinceañeras? Why or why not?

Quote #1: I like this quote because it gets right to the point. But I don't really agree with you when you said "It's telling you that the author wants to tell the readers someone is writing about the same thing." because it was the author that said that quote, not somebody else.
Answer #1: I think that Silvia will finish the book. I think that because I think that she will soon get into the book and read every day. :]
Quote #2: I also like this quote because its true that everyone (well not every one)starts to have Quinceaneras when they're 15. I also agree with you because Quinceaneras are popular if you are Hispanic.
Answer #2: I don't think that all Hispanic girls have Quinceaneras because some people can't afford it. But I'm pretty sure that most of them do or want to because they're alot of fun and a Quinceanera only happens once in your life.
